Jared Klok

Jared is a designer/builder/artist/schemer based in Dawson City, Yukon. He make space for projects that address housing needs, prize craftsmanship, and advocate for community and environmental concerns.  Having started in the construction trade as a teenager with “Klok Construction” in Southern Alberta, he spent time working in most every facet of the industry over the last two decades, going from wheelbarrowing concrete to interning in an architecture office during University, to starting up his own design/build practice in the North. Jared's portfolio includes houses, cabins, recording studios, saunas, and sculptural installations, as well as design work that runs the gamut from leather bags to furniture to cowboy boots. Jared also has a track record of success writing grants for affordable housing projects, business startups, music recording, and visual art work.

Currently, Jared is running “Midnight Sauna” in and around Dawson City while continuing to work on material experimentation and housing initiatives focused on challenging the structures that threaten housing security and social safety nets. With the rest of his hours, Jared makes time to keep writing and playing music while maintaining regular conversations and collaborations with friends, artists, and builders in which we conceptualize and construct localized utopias.
