Michaëla St-Pierre (Micha for short) is an interdisciplinary contemporary dance artist born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon. In 2017 Micha earned her BFA in Performance Dance, graduating with honours from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) during which time was awarded the Heart and Soul Nadia Potts Award. Micha worked in Toronto and in Whitehorse, Yukon for many years independently, for other choreographers, as well as with her Yukon based collective of which she is a founding member, Borealis Soul.
As an independent maker, Micha has experimented with many mediums in the quest of creating work that is accessible and moving. A passionate and nostalgic being, her creations on film, on stage, and in non-traditional spaces are raw, honest, and have been presented nationally. Her background in both contemporary and street styles, as well as her love of the floor, are the influences for a movement vocabulary that is uniquely powerful and captivating.
Micha’s dance films have been screened in her home territory (GRAND LOVE HUSSLE @ ALFF 2023 // Les Femmes Cachées @Onde de Choc 2017) nationally (GRAND LOVE HUSSLE @ DANCE ONSCREEN 2022 & CAFO @ Dance: made in Canada 2019) and internationally (CAFO @ the Great Lakes Film Festival 2018).
