Call of the Yukon

Yukon, Canada | 52 min | 2014

Produced for Omni Television (Rogers Communications), this three part documentary series looks at German speaking Yukoners and their Yukon lifestyle. Two episodes were presented at ALFF 2014.

Life At The River 22 min

Carmen and Robert Perren are originally from Switzerland. Together with their kids Anju, Lou and Ava, their home is in the Wheaton River valley in Southern Yukon, surrounded by the river and the mountains. It is a beautiful place – and still as far away from civilization as they wanted it for their lifestyle. This documentary follows the family through the seasons, from skating in the winter on the frozen river to the powerful high water in spring and the beauty of the warm summer.

Above The Clouds 22 min

Gerd Mannsperger grew up in southern Germany. Very early on, he was attracted to machines like motor bikes. He was on his way “Around the World” on his motor bike, when his bike broke down in the Yukon. He liked the Yukon and decided to learn how to fly small airplanes. He is flying ever since, for more than twenty years now. His company Alpine Aviation owns four planes and hires additional pilots in the busy summer season.
