The Working Cat’s Guide to the Klondike

Old timers, First Nation storytellers, historians and a cast of Yukon locals recall a traditional practice of “cat sledding” unique to the Dawson City area in Canada’s far North. Super 8 footage, “archival photographs” and comments on the advantages of cats over dogs from modern-day mushers create a whimsical portrait of a unique mode of transportation.

Yukon filmmaker Veronica Verkley livens her “spoofamentary” with a rollicking soundtrack by Dawson City musicians Barnacle Bob, Willie Gordon, and Harmonica George—all contributing to a body of wild and wonderful yarns on Klondike history.
